The Sisterhood of Rock: Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks' Enduring Friendship

Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks are both members of the legendary rock band Fleetwood Mac. Their friendship and connection can be traced back to the late 1970s when Stevie joined the band. Over the years, they have developed a close bond transcending their music and the band itself. They have a deep passion and love for songwriting. Both women are talented songwriters in their own right, and they have collaborated on several iconic Fleetwood Mac tracks, including “Don’t Stop,” “You Make Loving Fun,” and “Hold Me.” Many of Fleetwood Mac’s biggest hits were written by Christine and Stevie working together.

When Stevie was going through a difficult time with drug addiction in the 1980s, Christine was one of the people who helped her through it. Similarly, when Christine took a break from Fleetwood Mac in the late 1990s, Stevie encouraged her to return to the band. Christine has spoken in interviews about her admiration for Stevie’s creativity and unique style and how much she enjoys watching her perform on stage. Stevie has also been vocal about her appreciation for Christine’s musical talents and her ability to write beautiful, catchy melodies.

Despite the occasional tension and conflict within a band, Christine and Stevie have always maintained a strong bond. Even when they were not in Fleetwood Mac at the same time (Christine left the band in the late 1990s while Stevie continued to tour with them), they remained in touch and supported each other’s work.

Beyond their love for music and songwriting, Christine and Stevie share other interests that have brought them closer together. They both have a passion for gardening and have even exchanged tips and advice on their gardens over the years. In addition, they both love fashion and personal style and have often talked about their fashion choices and inspirations in interviews. The duo has written many songs together for Fleetwood Mac, and they have also collaborated on other projects outside of the band. For example, in 1984, they co-wrote a song called “And That’s Saying a Lot” for Stevie’s album “The Wild Heart.” In 2015, they teamed up with fellow Fleetwood Mac member Mick Fleetwood to record a cover of the Peter Green-era Fleetwood Mac song “Albatross.” They have celebrated holidays and birthdays together and have been known to exchange funny and sentimental gifts. For example, Stevie once gave Christine a crystal ball as a gift, while Christine gave Stevie a collection of antique perfume bottles.

Both Christine and Stevie have spoken highly of each other’s musical talents and contributions to Fleetwood Mac. In particular, Stevie has praised Christine’s ability to write catchy pop songs, while Christine has spoken about Stevie’s unique and ethereal singing style. They have also expressed admiration for each other’s live performances, with Stevie calling Christine “the best female keyboardist in rock and roll” and Christine saying that Stevie is “mesmerizing” on stage.

In recent years, their friendship has continued to flourish. In 2017, they released a collaborative album called “Lindsey Buckingham/Christine McVie,” which featured contributions from other Fleetwood Mac members. They have also continued to tour together as part of Fleetwood Mac and in their own projects.
